How to Tell if a Girl Likes You Over Text

By Marco Vance·5 min read·
Short answer

Real interest shows in three places: she invests effort, she leads sometimes, and she protects the thread when you are slow. Lists of 'flirty emojis' and reply speed alone will mislead you. A woman who likes you will reach back when you have not written, will give specifics instead of abstractions, and will accept or counter your closes instead of hedging.

TL;DR
  • Effort over emojis. Specifics over speed.
  • She reaches when you have not. That is the one signal that does not lie.
  • Accepting or counter-proposing a close beats every other tell.
  • Reply speed alone tells you almost nothing.

The four signals that hold

She reaches first sometimes. Not always, not on a schedule, but if you go quiet for a day she sometimes writes. This is the cleanest signal because it costs her something.

Her replies carry specifics. "Yesterday was crazy, my roommate adopted a cat from the parking lot" beats "lol good". Specifics mean she is willing to give you material.

She accepts or counters your closes. When you ask for the date, she either says yes, or counter-proposes a day. A hedge ("maybe", "let me see") is a soft no most of the time.

She protects the thread when you go slow. If you take six hours, she does not punish you with two days. She picks up where you left off.

The three signals that lie

Reply speed. Some women answer fast for everyone. Some are slow on principle. Speed without effort is noise.

Emoji count. Flirty-emoji lists are written for clicks, not for accuracy. A woman who is into you might use zero. A woman who is bored might decorate.

Long messages. Length means she is talking. It does not mean she is interested in you specifically. A long message about her day to a stranger is just narration.

The composite read

Two of the four real signals consistent across three days is real interest. One signal, even repeated, is not enough to act on. The integral over time is the only honest read.

How TextWizard reads it

Paste the thread. The tool scores who has invested last and how warm the integral is across the last ten exchanges, not the last line. Most reply-generators look at the last message; this one looks at the arc.

Frequently asked

What if she likes my Instagram stories but never replies?
Passive interest, not active. Worth keeping the channel open, not worth chasing the thread.
She mirrored my opener style word for word. Good sign?
Yes, small one. Mirroring tonality is a warm signal that she is engaging on your frame.
How long do I watch before deciding?
Three to five exchanges. Sooner than that you are guessing on noise. Later than that you are stalling.
