Tinder Bios for Guys
A Tinder bio is not where you sell yourself, it is where you set tonality and filter. Four short lines: one tonality-setter, one specific you actually do, one light read on yourself, one filter or close. Skip the list of hobbies, skip the height-and-job line, and never write 'fluent in sarcasm'. The bio does about 15% of the work; the photos do the rest.
- Four lines, max. Each does one job.
- Tonality-setter, specific, light read, filter or close.
- No hobby lists, no 'I love to travel'.
- The bio does 15% of the work. Photos do the rest.
The four-line template
Line 1, tonality-setter. One line that tells her how you talk. "Will pick the restaurant and pretend to ask." "Strong opinions on coffee, weak opinions on most other things."
Line 2, specific you actually do. Not 'hiking and travel'. "Currently learning to bake bread badly." "Trying to read the Spanish novels my Colombian friends recommend, slowly."
Line 3, light read on yourself. "Probably texted you within an hour because I rarely have a plan." "If I ghost it is because my notifications are off, not because I am playing a game."
Line 4, filter or close. "Looking for the friend who fights with me about whether sushi is romantic." "Coffee within the first week or we both lose interest, that is the rule."
What kills a bio
The hobby list. "Hiking, traveling, brunch, dogs, wine." Reads as every other guy.
The height and job line. "6'2, lawyer, here for what we can both take seriously." Reads as a Craigslist ad.
The sarcasm claim. Saying you are sarcastic is the opposite of being sarcastic. Be sarcastic in the line, do not announce it.
The negation list. "Not here for hookups, not here for games, not here for X." All she reads is 'not here'.
The dad joke. One is fine. A whole bio of them is a tell.
The filter is doing more than you think
A bio that says 'looking for the friend who argues about sushi' is filtering for women who like opinion play. It will lose the matches who do not, which is the point. A bio that filters lifts your average match quality more than any opener trick.
How TextWizard reviews a bio
Send the four lines and the tool tells you which line is doing real work, which is filler, and what specific is missing. Most bios have one good line and three filler lines; the fix is to delete three lines, not to add more.
Frequently asked
- Is no bio better than a bad bio?
- Yes. Empty is neutral. Bad actively costs you matches.
- Should I put my Instagram in the bio?
- Not at the start. After a warm exchange, in DMs. Bio-Instagram reads as 'reach me on the other app' and reduces in-app investment.
